Ryan Gauld breaks Whitecaps record

Ryan Gauld's magic hat is on right now as his assist to Sergio Cordova the other night makes him break the most assists by a Whitecap in the MLS era. He passes Pedro Morales in that category. Now we talk about how big of an accomplishment that is and discuss his time so far for the Caps.

Accomplishment

It might be the best assist in his Whitecaps career and it's so coincidental that this was the record breaking assist. It might not feel like much but in two seasons bringing the Whitecaps from absolute disaster to a exciting and ingrowing Major League Soccer club. When Gauld made his debut on August 8, 2021 and at that moment the Whitecaps had 15 points in 16 games less than a point per game. They finished the season in the playoff spot as the 6th seed and unfortunately suffered an defeat to Sporting Kansas City. This shows how impactful Ryan Gauld has been for the Whitecaps, and this might mean that he's the best passer in the MLS era for the Whitecaps. It might mean that he's the best dribbler in the MLS era as a lot of those assists came off magical runs by the Gauldfather.

In conclusion, Gauld got 21 assists in the MLS, he got 2 assists in the Concacaf Champions League, got 3 assists in the Canadian Championship and 1 assist in the Leagues Cup, this is according too the Whitecaps website. His first assist for the Caps was from Austin as he got a pass from Caicedo and he is in the left of the 6 then he slides it over to who else but Brian White. The duo has been sensational since joining the club in the same transfer window., Brian White to the club on June 2, 2021 and Gauld a month after on July 31, 2021.

Expectations for the future

Now Gauld has gotten one Whitecaps record it is a thought that he can get more like the most goals or the most appearances in the MLS era. While we've enjoyed 2 years of magic by Gauld, he may have not reached the peak that he has potential to go to. As Ryan Gauld has sometimes felt like he can do more, especially in the beginning of the season. Gauld didn't get a goal contribution in the MLS until Matchday 10 during the Whitecaps win vs Minnesota. He did get two assists in the Concacaf Champions League earlier this season. Gauld needs to start off the season fit and ready as it took him until May 31, 2023 to score this season. It was the same script last year for the Gauldfather even though he scored and assisted more at the beginning he got injured and didn't quite look as sharp as he usually does. His contract runs out in 2024 we'll find out if he'll sign a contract extension. We'll have to pray that he re-signs or else this club will go back into being one of the worst teams in Major League Soccer. Gauld is outstanding during the second half of the season, Gauld is still great in the first half but second half of the season it's when it really clicks. Gauld might be permanent captain next season after veteran Russell Teibert might leave.
