Ranko Veselinovic signs contract extension with the Caps

The Serbian defender has signed a contract extension through 2026 and has a club option for 2027. The salary of the contract is unknown for now. The contract was going to run out after the current 2023 season but the Caps successfully convinced Ranko Veselinovic to sign the contract. It was well earned by the Serbian.

How Ranko deserved it

Veselinovic was acquired first on a loan for the Whitecaps in 2020 and they were impressed as he was 20 at that time and had some potential so they permanently signed him in the 2021 season. He has been the most vital part of the backline in my opinion for 2 seasons now, 2022 and 2023. The Serbian has been a key player for the Whitecaps in general, as his shot blocking and his clearance abilities are top notch, being one of 4 players to have 400 clearances and 80 blocks since 2020 in the MLS, that's a great achievement for the 6"2 center-back. While being a set piece threat for the Caps.

What's next for Veselinovic

Veselinovic has always been underrated by some Caps fans in my opinion, without him the defence will be in shambles. He is playing in a underrated position so he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Especially with him being only 1 of 4 players in a unique category that shows his composure is fantastic, also it shows that his anticipation and timing is great as it takes both of those things to block shots. Now I think what's next for Ranko is that he will become more vocal, as he was named vice captain for this year. It will be interesting to see Veselinovic and Ryan Gauld's leadership being combined. I see him being recognized as a marvelous player in a few years, fans will give him the recognition he deserves. While being a beast on set pieces. With his defending will be enhanced and be top-notch.
