Jean Pyerre

Jean Pyerre is going on trial for Whitecaps FC 2, and if he impresses, he will sign with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC first team. The Caps would have to sell a player, to make cap room for Jean Pyerre to sign. The Brazilian was heavily linked to Vancouver in 2021, but it didn't work out at the end. Now after unfortunately having testicular cancer, he will go on trial and again if he does well, Pyerre will potentially sign with the Whitecaps senior team if they can make way for him, by selling a player to clear cap. So he will train with the Whitecaps FC 2 team, maybe play a game or two. Then the Whitecaps will have to make a decision about Pyerre. This is a footage of Pyerre practicing with Whitecaps FC 2.

This is also a interesting way to use the MLS Next Pro side, as Pyerre obviously a talented player. But he is trying to re-gain his confidence and a trial will help the Whitecaps management to decide. Using Whitecaps FC 2 to do a trial is a unique but good idea. As the Caps has to sell someone to clear cap if they're signing him up right away, so make sure that, that's who you want to sign and just give him more sharpness as he hasn't played a professional soccer match since November 2nd 2022. It is a good chance for Pyerre to re-find his soccer career in this trial here in Whitecaps FC 2.

Current players that developed in Whitecaps FC 2

So there are multiple players that developed from Whitecaps FC 2 in this current Whitecaps senior team. But the most recent players that has been moved up to the senior team, with Ali Ahmed and Simon Becher called up during the offseason of 2022. Also Gio Aguilar called up on a short term call-up, which I believe there is 4 of those short-term call ups each season. Gio Aguilar was subbed on and made his Whitecaps FC senior debut against Sporting Kansas City on July 1, 2023 during that 3-0 loss. He was subbed on in the 81st minute. That is the latest Whitecaps FC 2 gaining a short-term call up and playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps senior team. With both Simon Becher and Ali Ahmed making meaningful contributions for the Whitecaps senior team. Simon Becher hasn't been effective recently, but at the beginning of the season scoring 7 goals including all competitions. We may have expected more after the hot start ton the beginning of the season, as he has obviously cooled down but the points that he gained at the beginning of the season might be crucial for the playoff race. While for the Canadian Ali Ahmed, he can play various positions, with him playing center-midfielder for most of this season. But he was considered an left-back when he was called up twice last season, and at the beginning of the season some people considered him a left-back, some say he will benefit to be a midfielder or a wing-back. He has had 16 appearances this season, while contributing 2 goals and an assist. It it great to see these two youngsters, with Becher surprisingly being 24 and Ali Ahmed being 22 coming up to the senior team and helping this team.

It is worth noting that some of the senior players will get sent down to Whitecaps FC 2 especially if they're younger. With Simon Becher playing on Whitecaps FC 2 their last game against Austin FC 2, also Thomas Hasal getting sent down for a couple games after the poor performance against St Louis, before the season ending injury. So it is also a chance for some out of sharpness players, to re-gain sharpness in Whitecaps FC 2.

Deadline day signings

It has almost been a month since deadline day, but Whitecaps FC 2 signed 4 new players including Dembo Saidykhan, Malek Mahri, Malcolm Simmons and Cyprian Kachwele. With Dembo Saidykhan apparently being a great talent and having high potential. As he is a center back, and from Gambia. With these 4 young and upcoming players being brought in maybe some being promoted into the senior team next year? Time will tell.

The results

While the progression and the talent is coming in from Whitecaps FC 2. With great players going on trial with the MLS Next Pro side. The results have been underwhelming, especially with Vancouver Whitecaps senior players going to play on Whitecaps FC 2 from time to time. The Caps MLS Next Pro side is currently 9th in the Western Conference, which is failing to make the playoffs. The format is the same as the format in MLS last season. So they need to be top 7 to qualify for the MLS Next Pro playoffs. They are currently 3 points behind 7th place Minnesota United 2, which doesn't seem too bad but recently it has been horrible. Whitecaps FC 2 has not gotten the full 3 points in 7 games. Vancouver Whitecaps 2 has had 4 points in 7 games, but before the shootout win versus Austin FC 2 they had 2 points in 6 games which is terrible for any club. But with the acquisitions of Pyerre going on trial and the signings they signed on deadline day, might get them to victory. We'll slowly see and see if we'll get results.
