Cascadia Cup

The draw between the Sounders and the Timbers have made Vancouver the owners of the Cascadia Cup again, as the draw has made both Seattle and Portland out of reach to win this Cascadia Cup. They have won it for the first time since 2016!

Fans

This is a great silverware and achievement both for the teams and for the fans. As a lot of the fans, travelled to Portland when the Whitecaps played the Timbers, and Cascadia derbies are usually known for the atmosphere. As in the MLS, not really many fans travel to watch their team play, but during the Cascadia derbies, there are a lot of fans travelling no matter the teams that are playing. With the Whitecaps not really having a high attendance, it did get a slight upgrade when they play their Cascadia rivals. With an average of 17,512 in those Cascadia Cup fixtures at BC Place, compared to the average of the Whitecaps attendance in Major League Soccer which is 16,164. While even though the attendance in pretty low to MLS standards it was still a competition between the home fans and the away fans to try to outsing each other, and the same goes for Portland and goes for Seattle. This trophy was actually originated by the fans of the Whitecaps, Sounders and the Timbers. With the strings on the side of the Cascadia Cup, usually being a representative of the supporters groups of each team. For the Whitecaps sake, the strings on the side are usually the Southsiders and Rain City Brigade.

Since 2016

The last time the Cascadia Cup went up to the north was 2016, that's 6 years. Which is a while for a cup competition between the rivals of 3 teams. But now the cup is finally going back to Vancouver and all the fans can be delighted, as this to them is very important, so this silverware means a lot to the fans and probably the players as they've won another trophy, and it's the second trophy this season and it's the Cascadia Cup. As between the teams in the Pacific Northwest territories, the main rivalry for a neutral MLS fan, is between Seattle and Portland, but here the Whitecaps just bought the cup back to Canada and won it for their trophy cabinet and supporters. Maybe it's time to put some respect in the Whitecaps name, because they've just won the Cascadia Cup over both their rivals of Seattle and Portland. This year might be the one where the Whitecaps have potential to advance further than the Sounders and the Timbers in this upcoming MLS playoffs, to prove to the MLS fans that they can outperform Seattle and Portland, as they've not been recognized a ton here even this season, so it is important to perform in the playoffs, to spark up some noise about this team.

What they get

The Whitecaps will obviously receive the Cascadia Cup trophy, which will be their 7th in club history and will put them tied with the Seattle Sounders for the most Cascadia Cups both with 7, while Portland is at the bottom with 5 Cascadia Cups won. Now, the Whitecaps will also get bragging rights by winning this trophy, and that means that in soccer, they will be able to boast is the best between the Pacific Northwest of soccer.

Fixtures that done it

So the first game of the Cascadia Cup this season for the Whitecaps was on April 8, it was a 1-0 win, and it was also Vaisakhi Night at Bc Place, I recall that game should've been way more than a 1-0 as the Timbers keeper was pulling off unreal saves that game, but it was Gressel to Brian White who made the difference in that game at BC Place against the Timbers. The next game was away at Providence Park, where the Whitecaps falls 3-1 to Portland in MLS Rivalry Week. Now it was another Cascadia matchup, this time in Vancouver and it is Next Gen Night at BC Place, the Sounders were in town, but the Caps defeated Seattle 2-0 due to goals from Vite and a own goal that was initiated through Ryan Gauld. Fast forward to July 8, it was Pride Night at BC Place, but this one was a pretty frustrating one for the Whitecaps fans, as Seattle sneaks out of Vancouver with a victory, a 2-3 win for Seattle with Leo Chu getting a brace, which for the Whitecaps missed out on a tremendous chance of being in a top class position to win the Cascadia Cup. Then it was August 26, where the Whitecaps played Portland away, and it was a 3-2 scoreline, but this time in Vancouver's favour as goals from Gauld, and one goal by White made them go atop of the Cascadia Cup standings. Now a draw between Seattle and Portland would mean the Vancouver Whitecaps will be Cascadia Cup champions, but in the first half it wasn't looking likely as Seattle was ahead 2-0, but Portland recovered and at the final whistle it was a 2-2 draw, which was exactly what the Whitecaps wanted to win the Cascadia Cup. With the Southsiders leader/ capo taking it back to Canada and Vancouver.
